Carrigan Students Place at National Skills Conference
Daymond Moore (Wichita Falls High School) and Daniel Fox (Hirschi High School) , Wichita Falls ISD and Skills USA students won the silver medal in Mechatronics at the National Leadership and Skills Conference.
The SkillsUSA Championships, held in Kansas City, Mo., took place June 25-30, 2007, as part of the SkillsUSA 43rd annual National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC), a showcase of career and technical education students. During the week, more than 4,700 outstanding career and technical education students-all state contest winners competed hands-on in 84 different trade, technical and leadership fields.
Daymond and Daniel are graduating seniors at Carrigan with Mr. McKinzie's electronics class. Both students won the Mechatronics gold medal in Corpus Christy during the school year to represent the state of Texas at the National Skills Conference.
During the national competition, Daymond and Daniel worked against the clock proving their expertise in the occupations of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, and electrical/mechanical trades. The contest ran with the help of industry, trade associations, and labor organizations, and test competencies that are set by industry. Daymond and Daniel also participated in a job interview process to win the silver medal. Both students received over a thousand dollars in Snap-on tools and a chance to be selected for the World Skill Olympics to be held in Calgary, Canada in 2009.
