On November 7, 2006, the citizens of Wichita Falls ISD passed a $60 million bond package that focused on remodeling, upgrading elementary facilities, more classrooms where needed, two new schools, remodeled early childhood center, remodeled secondary science labs, and air conditioning jr. high school and high school competition gyms. With successful passage of the bond, a WFISD Citizens Advisory Committee has been formed. This committee, made up of citizens from throughout the community, receive information, review progress, and give input regarding projects included in the 2006 bond program.
The proposal is based on the Community Facility Action Team's recommendation in 2004, a recommendation from 43 community members for the district to fulfill its goal of "fewer and newer" schools.

The 2006 bond authorization will fund capital projects through 2011.
WFISD earned an A-1 financial rating from Moody's Investors Service, an outstanding financial rating for the school district.
Using bond funds for long-term capital needs allows the district to spread the cost of capital expenditures over a longer period of time just as a homeowner finances the purchase of a house.
Without bond funds, the district would be required to pay for capital items from the general fund, which pays for salaries, instructional programs and other operating costs. |
