Titled “Keep Calm and Carry On,” this image depicts a senior’s frame of mind about college-admissions decisions and the entrance statistics–acceptance rates, ACT averages and annual tuition–that schools use to judge students. Photo by Alex Cowsert, Wichita Falls, Texas, USA.
2013 is the International Year of Statistics. To expose my students to the importance of Statistics throughout the world, I offered an extra credit assignment in which they could enter an international photo contest. Students submitted photos that depict how statistics advances the wellbeing of people in our country or our global society.
Two students won honors in this competition:
Alex Cowsert won 3rd place (and $150)
Sarah Gorman won honorable mention.
