CTE Center, Memorial Stadium parking, and track surface projects get unanimous nod
A study shows 92.77 percent of WFISD's renovation work on its two junior high schools has been awarded to local vendors and contractors.
The Wichita Falls ISD Board of Trustees approved two construction packages, one for McNiel Junior High and one for Barwise Junior High, at a board meeting Sept. 21 that will allow construction to begin at the south end of McNiel Junior High on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
A big chunk of the $59.5 million school bond -- $25 million of it – will be used to renovate and enlarge two junior high schools to make room for sixth graders. The expansions are necessary as the district transitions to middle schools.
Soon, WFISD will own four pieces of property located near 4201 Henry S. Grace Freeway. With 20 acres the district already owns off Hatton Road, these four tracts will be the new site for the WFISD Career and Technical Education Center. All four tracts measure about 100 acres.
With a “yes” vote on the WFISD’s $59.5 million bond, voters paved the way for building a Career and Technical Education Center, making additions to its junior high schools, fixing Memorial Stadium parking, and upgrading security and technology at all campuses.
