Congratulations to Jacob Schrass for being
named a National Merit Semi-Finalist!
Rider senior Jacob A. Schrass logs score among nation’s top 16,000 students in National Merit Scholarship Program
At the moment, Rider High School senior Jacob Schrass wants to pursue an aerospace engineering degree at Texas A&M. If he ultimately goes that direction, now he can amp up his applications with the title of National Merit Semifinalist.
The prestigious Semifinalist title from the National Merit Scholarship Program is one of the most coveted academic honors available to a teenager.
Schrass is the district’s only National Merit
Semifinalist in two years.
Schrass is one of 16,000 students nationwide who earned the prestigious National Merit Semifinalist title in the 61stannual National Merit Scholarship Program. To do it, he earned a qualifying score on the PSAT, a one-time test administered to high school juniors every October.
He will advance to Finalist and National Merit Scholar in the spring if he completes its final requirements, as 90 percent of Semifinalists do.
He is now eligible to compete for 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.
Way to go, Jacob!
Congratulations also go to Jenna Ward, Alex Zeizinger, and Jansen Rouillard for being named National Merit Commended!
Jenna, Alex and Jansen are among about 34,000 high performers recognized as Commended Students for their exceptional academic promise.
Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who took the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
"The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
Way to go, Jenna, Alex, and Jansen!
