    Social & Emotional Services develops systems to identify and meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of students.

    Evaluate & Adjust

    • Gathered data and recommendations from Counseling & Student Support Staff through Round Table discussion in August 2018 PD Session
    • Identified other potential concerns, “missing pieces”, areas of improvement, etc. through emails, Gaggle alerts, discussions, questions, etc.
    • Began efforts to better utilize current Skyward technology, provide district-wide parent events, and improve communication and partnership efforts with local community resources
    • Discussed plans to streamline student services at the secondary-level through defined roles/titles, align services from middle school to high school, and increase counseling staff at some campuses

     

    Expand 

    • Provide more parent education and awareness opportunities
    • Improve advertising and planning for parent events at the district and campus level
    • Create new and/or foster current community partnerships
    • Curriculum:
      • Establish and implement a district-wide K-12 career development program 
      • Establish and implement a district-wide K-5 guidance curriculum 
      • Establish and implement a district-wide 6-12 SEL guidance curriculum
      • Establish and implement a district-wide 6-12 academic guidance curriculum

     

    Recognize & Support (Training)

    Counselors, Social Workers, and At-Risk Coordinators 

      • Previously provided (and will continue to provide) access to and opportunities for professional development and training related to social and emotional learning, trauma-informed classrooms, mental health issues, academic guidance, graduation requirements, accountability, etc. 
      • Brought in American School Counseling Association (ASCA) Trainers for required 18-19 professional development in K-12 Career Conversations and Solution-Focused Brief Counseling 
      • Utilize skills and knowledge to train others

     

    Teachers

      • Counselors/Student Support Staff provide training on social and emotional learning, trauma-informed classrooms, relationship-building, etc.
      • Expand opportunities for teachers to receive Youth Mental Health First Aid Training 

     

    Recognize & Support (Training)

    Students 

      • NAMI Presentation to all 7th Graders
      • NAMI Presentation to all 9th Graders
      • Guidance curriculum 
      • Expanded/focused health initiatives (mental and physical)
      • Individualized scheduling/academic guidance sessions at secondary
      • More in-school supports in the form of follow-ups, group participation, access to resources, etc. through the restructuring of counseling services
