WFISD May 2021 Bond Proposal
This past November, Wichita Falls ISD voters approved the construction of two new high schools. In compliance with a new state law, the 2020 bond package was presented to voters as two propositions; with the accompanying athletic facilities for those high schools offered separately . The approved high schools will open in 2024 and replace the three schools that are currently in use. Wichita Falls High School will be retired, and Rider High School and Hirschi High School will transition into middle schools.
Since the approval was for the school buildings only, WFISD is bringing remaining facilities to the voters again this May.
On February 9, 2021, the Wichita Falls Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hold a $13,585,000 bond election to address the extracurricular and recreational facilities for each approved high school. The development of the May 2021 proposed bond program is part of the previous efforts that created the comprehensive plan for the November 2020 bond. The plan was formed through an in-depth process that directly involved the community. This bond election will give voters the opportunity to determine the next steps for Wichita Falls ISD’s long-range plan.
