The PAL® Program empowers youth to make a positive impact on their lives, schools, and communities by fostering social awareness, personal growth, and community engagement. Through its courses, PAL® nurtures and supports students, strengthening their resilience and equipping them with the skills needed for academic, social, and lifelong success.
At WFISD, students are nominated for the PAL® Program in the spring of their sophomore or junior year with input from current PALS and teachers. The selection process is thorough—each nominee is vetted, submits an application, participates in an interview, and is evaluated using a rubric that considers attendance, grades, interview performance, and teacher recommendations.
PALS take on various responsibilities, including mentoring younger students, engaging in community service, and supporting staff, students, and programs at their respective campuses. Each campus tailors the PAL® experience to meet the specific needs of its school community.
What makes a great PAL? In their own words, PALS are individuals of integrity who are kind, understanding, responsible, and trustworthy leaders. They are willing to work with anyone, step outside their comfort zones, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
