Nominees for the 2018 Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year title gather in The Forum courtyard April 12 for a banquet in their honor.

At a banquet Thursday, WFISD bestowed its most prestigious title on two of its finest educators. Superintendent Mike Kuhrt named Lexi Law, a 5th grade science teacher at Ben Franklin Elementary, as its 2018 Elementary Teacher of the Year. He also named Heather Preston, an honors English teacher at Rider High School, as the District's Secondary Teacher of the Year.

The two winners were chosen from 26 nominees, each one nominated as their campus Teacher of the Year by their peers.

Finalists for the top Elementary title were Janet Hughes, a 5th grade science teacher at Booker T. Washington Elementary, and Rosendo Ramos, a 3rd grade math/science teacher at Zundy Elementary.

Finalists for the top Secondary title were Tonisha Hedge, a 9th-12th grade math teacher at Hirschi High School, and Amy Yeary, a 6th grade reading teacher at Barwise Middle School.
