Graduation Information for Seniors

S.H. Rider High School 2020 Graduation Information                          


Diploma Cover Policy:

Each senior is responsible for purchasing a cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover for graduation.Seniors if you are planning on using a cap and gown from a previous graduation, the cap and gown must first be checked and approved by Mrs. Radtke and the student must sign a form stating they have met with Mrs. Radtke. You still must purchase a tassel and diploma cover from Graduate Sales. Tassels cost is $15 and must be from Graduate Sales (they must match all others).  If you do not purchase a diploma cover from Graduate Sales, you will not be issued a diploma cover at graduation. Diploma covers will be available for purchase after graduation if one has not been purchased before graduation. The cost for diploma cover is $15.00. (Order early, the prices go up SUBSTANTIALLY after January 3rd!)


Graduation Rehearsal:

Any senior wanting to participate in the graduation exercises MUST attend graduation practice. Attendance at practice is mandatory for participation in the graduation exercises. The only person who may grant a waiver from the practice session is Dr. Blair. Graduation practice is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, May 22 time TBA.


Important Dates:

  • Senior graduation information meeting (for ordering caps and gowns) October 24  at 7:55 a.m. in the auditorium
  • Last date to get pictures to Coach Duncan for inclusion in the yearbook October 21 (with the exception of those that will be taking retakes)
  • Lifetouch retakes on campus October 28 in library 
  • Orders for cap and gowns will be taken October 31 and November 1 during lunches by the counselors office
  • Last date senior announcements and cap and gown orders can be placed without a late fee being assessed to the order January 3
  • Balance due amounts collected February 19 during lunches
  • Cap and gown pick up March 13 from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. in the foyer of the gym; students will be called down by last name (late arrival and students at the CEC will be called at alternate times; any items paid for will be left on campus for students to pick up if they are absent)
  • Graduation pledges to be signed in class the week of May 20 
  • Graduation rehearsal tentatively scheduled for Wednesday May 20 time TBA
  • Graduation May 23, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kay Yeager Auditorium 


Graduation Dress Code:

Graduation attire must comply with the school board dress code; otherwise, the graduating senior will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremonies. 


  • White or light colored shirt with a collar AND dark colored tie
  • Black dress pants with black socks
  • Solid black dress shoes-NO flip-flops or tennis style shoes will be allowed 
  • Gentlemen will NOT be allowed to wear any facial jewelry and may only wear stud earrings


  • Black dress (Shorts are NOT permitted at the graduation exercises)
  • Solid black dress shoes (heels should not exceed 1” to 1 ½ “ in height) and must have an enclosed heel or back strap on them - NO flip-flops or tennis style shoes that lace up will be allowed
  • No facial jewelry will be permitted to be worn by females at graduation


*Failure to comply with these rules could result in your child not being allowed to participate in the graduation ceremonies or your child’s diploma being held at the end of graduation ceremonies.
